History Timeline

Rooted in Community Voices
The Unity Gathering began as a response to community-identified needs—creating space to address challenges and restore connection through culture and shared experiences.

Growing Through Tradition
Over the years, the gathering has evolved into a multi-day cultural event featuring workshops led by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, featuring ceremonies, teachings, and hands-on workshops grounded in Anishinaabe ways of life.

Rotating Across Communities
Each year, a Nokiiwin member First Nation hosts the Unity Gathering, strengthening regional connections and ensuring each community plays a role in shaping the experience.

The Unity Gathering is more than an event—it is a space for renewal, connection, and collective strength. For many, it offers an opportunity to reconnect with culture, build relationships, and learn directly from Elders and Knowledge Keepers. It helps reduce isolation, especially for those in rural and remote communities, while creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

Through ceremony, storytelling, and shared experiences, the Unity Gathering supports healing and promotes well-being across generations. It strengthens the transfer of knowledge, uplifts culture, and reinforces the importance of coming together—not only to celebrate, but to support one another and move forward in a good way.
